THE FACE YOU MAKE WHEN...

Do you remember the face you made when you saw the love of your life for the first time?

How about the face you made when your friend jumped out and scared you half to death?

One of the most powerful, universal languages we humans have at our disposal is our facial expressions. Without even saying a single word, in a matter of seconds, we can communicate a multitude of emotions with clarity and precision. But what’s scary about facial expressions is that they can also be brutally honest.

Do you remember the face your parents made when they saw your first tattoo?

Do you remember your spouse/partner’s face when you told them about your recent shopping habits?

One look can either be the difference between life and death.

With all this in mind, what faces are your school’s key stakeholders making when encountering your school facilities? In particular, what face do they make when they encounter your school’s bathroom?

I’m sure we can all remember what face we made when we last walked into a genuinely abhorrent bathroom.

How did that make you feel?


How did it change your perception of the overall facility at large?

Although the correlation between bathroom facilities and a school’s bottom line can seem trivial, a recent study conducted by Unilever reveals that:

  • 30% reported ‘discomfort’ and ‘finding it hard to concentrate in class’ due to ‘holding it in’ to avoid using school toilets
  • 12% said that they deliberately did not eat or drink at school to avoid using the toilet
  • One in ten admitted missing school to avoid using toilets.
